need some help with notation

So I was reading this line from "The slap base bible" and at one point it indicated a hammer on to the exact same note how do you do this? on the CD it just sounds like a mute the he plays the note again really quick.

Maybe his anchor finger is back from the fret enough to leave room for the hammering finger to come down and strike the note again? Never tried it; dunno if it works...

I'd say he probably mutes the note and then taps (hammers-onto) the note again.
