answered in the other thread... basically the time signature doesn't tell you the meter, but most frequently 9/8 will be 3 beats, each divided into 3
but the time sig does NOT tell you this...! you have to do some further digging, either listening or looking at the beaming or phrasing
to illustrate this, check out this part of Frank Zappa's 'Drowning Witch': two different, equally legitimate ways of playing 9/8
bar 90 shows 9/8 played as you'll usually hear it.. '3,3,3' - 3 beats, each divided into 3
bar 126 shows 9/8 played as '2,2,2,3' - more like a 4/4 with an extra 8th note tacked on to the end
