It is a different genre that started in nordic countries. Some bands of this genre are venom and bathory (pioneers). Cradle of filth, dimmu borgir and others are more modern and melodic black metal bands.

Ah OK, I guess I'm getting old. I seem to remember an article about such a phenomenon. Anywho, I thought it might be like Black guys who play thrash metal like Body Count.

I play in a black metal band, and I love it. Frankly it is not a hard genre to play. Just build up a lot of Speed, and use a pick if you must. Speed speed and more Speed.

Black Metal genre defined: Black metal is a very very fast tempo, faster than most thrash metal. Its musical features are generally a constant buzzsaw of guitars and bass coupled with the drummer playing blast beats, its all about top speed and melody is secondary. Also the lyrics are sang in a way wich is supposed to resemble a demon or minion of satan, they intentially indeciphable. THere is also a subgenre called melodic black metal that slows down and adds violins or keyboards, sometimes even clean vocals. 90% of Black metal lyrics contain satanic themes and anti-christian sentiment. This stems from the fact that most black metal bands are from Norweigh and there is a great divide between Christianity and people who are not Christians in that region. Bad history. However there are other ways to do it. Immortal for instance bases all their lyrics on a fictious land they invented called Blakshryk. The band Im in takes this approach.

So their you go it has nothing to do with the race of the people who play it.

There's a great divide between Christians and who exactly in "Norweigh"? Odin worshipers?
