New bassist looking for the next step!

Hey all!

I recently started playing bass and im having a blast. i don't know why i never tried before!

The problem is, I really love metalcore band such as August burns red but obviously i can't play these kind of songs with 2 weeks of training so far. so i decided to check out a few alternative and i managed to learn these songs

Explosion in the sky - a song for our father
Bad religion - sinister rouge
Muse - time is running out

I tried to learn master of puppet but fail horribly to play the main rift even with a few days of practice,

based on where i am currently,

Would any of you have any idea of maybe the next few songs i should learn to go toward my goal ( wich is to play ABR songs...in a few months hopefully)

I know it is a huge step from what i learned to what im aiming at, but that's where i want to get.

any help would be appreciated!

thanks!

Hi Nick, other than some lessons/classes there really are no shortcuts, just keep picking harder songs, have a blast, and don’t give up.

No one expects you to. In fact I'm going to suggest that you slow down and get some of the fundamentals under your fingers. How to hold your bass, how to tune it, how to make sound come from it, have you decided what you will use, i.e. fingers, thumb or a pick and then how do you mute the monster. Lot of basic stuff you need to get first.

Online Bass Lessons at StudyBass.com is a good place to start. Read what it has to say. Try some of the exercises.

Plenty of time for songs after you know where the notes are on your fretboard. Not trying to yank your chain, but, are you comfortable with where the notes are located? That's kinda important. Let studybass.com lead you one step at a time.

Good luck.

You know, practice practice practice. Your fingers will be slow and clumsy at first, but you keep on, it won't be long till you start surprising yourself. Who know, you may even find a lot of new music through talking to other bassists, and playing with differant people. I know I have.

Wow thanks for the answers!

i'll Check out the website!! i did not thought these kind of website existed for free!

having someone teach you with what they learned is always a good idea i guess,

i did not know how to start so i just downloaded songs on guitar pro and played them along,

but this will absolutely help out!

Besides that, i guess only practice can make me reach my goal,
as long as i get to it, i'll be happy!
