| | | | A new review of Jammit I just reviewed Jammit - an app for iphone, ipad and ipod Touch that lets you listen and learn parts from the isolated bass and guitar parts of the original mulitrack recordings. It also provides Tab and Standard Notation.
You can read it at Bass Musician Magazine

| | | | Seems way overpriced. The app itself isn't anything new from what's already out there for FREE. And for notation/tab/midi I gravitate towards Guitar Pro. Of course those are user generated notation files so some inaccuracies might occur, which is probably why those songs cost a fortune. Multitrack master access is costly.
Seems like a nice app for the expensive smartphone so you got the cash to spend on a song but nothing new under the sky....

This is not another animated midi program - with cheesy midi
and low quality lines. This is an opportunity to hear the Actual recorded line isolated - while watching it animated with the notation. This is not happening anywhere else.
As far as the price of the tracks, yeah it's not cheap, but compared to the price of lessons, at least Some of those tracks are well worth it. The ability to buy Roundabout and hear that line isolated - yeah, that's worth every penny. And then some.

It needs to be reiterated: These are the actual studio recordings from the master tapes the albums were made from. It is a complete joy for me to sit down and actually just be able to listen to Geddy Lee play. You have mixer controls, so you can control how much of the band you hear with the bass. If you are a John Myung fan it's essential, since you are barely hear the poor guy in the mix. The tabs seem really accurate, and since they can just listen to the bass to transcribe, they should be. You can also change the speed so you can play along at slower speeds, but the pitch doesn't change. Right now I'm working on Headlong Flight by Rush, and this helps a lot. There are so many bass notes out there that I just never heard before.
The day Iron Maiden starts showing up on Jammit they will be making some money off of me. The more musicians that support this app will really help their catalog expand. |

| | | | Love it. Re-record the Jammit tracks into Ableton Live, and use a MIDI foot controller to hands-free loop, slow down, solo the bass track, etc for easier learning.
Just listening to some of the original bass tracks soloed send chills down my spine!

But - the ability to hear some of these tracks isolated - is pretty much priceless.
Hopefully, the Jammit people will succeed in branching out to many more artists. There's far too much metal crap that has little to no value listening to isolated. Versus listening to Roundabout with bass isolated - which, yeah, is priceless.

The day when they have access and permission to other genres and artists, I think then, will Jammit really Jam. It must be quite some process to convince record companies/artist to release the original master tracks to Jammit to be dissected and sold off in parts. But hey, they're getting paid too. I do especially like the ease of learning and seeing the transcribed notes played, plus the ablity to slow down and isolate the bassline is totally worth the price they charge. Artists that I would love to see included in their catalogue includes Level 42, RHCP, Marcus Miller, Tower of Power, Jaco, Victor Wooten, Stanely Clarke, Primus, and more R&B, Funk, and Modern Jazz. Just my preference. Peace out my bass brothers. |

You can "disable" the amp modeling - but then my passive bass doesn't have enough signal. How are you other bassists playing along with Jammit? | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
