Im new to the bass and want to learn, only instrument ive played is the keyboard. Im not trying to start a band or anything, i basically want to play on my free time and just mess around with sounds. What i really want to do is recreate the sounds of Death from Above.
Since im just in the "want to learn" process, im not really wililng to dish out alot of cash. i was thinking this will be enough for what i need. http://www.guitarcenter.com/Ibanez-S...31-i1168510.gc
Also what would be the "best" medium of learning the basics of the bass? Is their a certain book/cd i should get that stands out from the rest?
And last but not least, based on the sound im going for, would i be better off getting a guitar or a bass amp for it?
All, criticism will be taken in, and just in advance, yes, i know its a cheap bass, but hey, im a cheap mofo.
thanks alot guys |

As for my own tastes, I just don't like Ibanez. Again, my opinion. Someone will come on and say that I'm out of my mind or I just never played a certain model or whatever...bah! I don't like them. Having said that, I'm sure you would be very happy with that particular bass. However, if I were shopping in the $300 range I would consider: Or this But I would probably buy this Or for a little more, this
Point is, there are lots of nice basses out there that I'm sure you would love. I only looked in the $300 range because that was the price of the Ibanez that you linked.
Also, check the classifieds. You can usually get more bass for your buck that way. I've seen a few really nice ones lately for around $400 that I'm thinking of scooping up.

My answer to this has always been, "the one that feels good in your hands, the one that sounds good to you". Go to a couple of stores/shops and take a look at what they have in your price range, then sit down and play them. Yes I understand that you are a noob, but even a noob will understand by plucking strings what feels right in their hands and what sounds right to their ears.
You may find a bass under what you thought you would spend or a used bass that new would have been more, but is cheaper because its used.
The Ibanez you have the link too looks good and seems to be priced right for what you need, but how does it feel and play in your hands???

| | | | i completely understand that its up to how it feels in my hands. But i was just kinda "window shopping" online before i actually go today. I just wanted to get some input on suggestions and on the one i was thinking about getting. In case somebody already owned it or had played it before and had any problems with it. As far as how it feels, i dont know till about 2pm today, its 7:30am right now. Im probably gonna be looking for one that the neck isnt too thick, i plan on playing with some speed. Thanks alot man
Any input on a certain book i should buy to get the basics down? Also, what do you guys think about the bass or guitar amp? Which everone i get, it'll be a crate amp most likely, i like those for some reason.

| | | Didnt have time to go to GC yesterday(girls hampster died) but i finally went today and checked out a few bass guitars. I really liked the ibanez i had in mind. My friend that knows how to play guitar checked it out. And hes one of those guys that HATES ibanez, but he had to admit, that he liked this one. So im gonna pick it up this wed. And due to a bet i won with the same friend, hes gonna buy my first amp. He'll pay up to $400 bucks for any amp of my choice. So im looking into what amp i should get. By the way im looking into a guitar amp and not a Bass amp. http://www.musiciansfriend.com/produ...Amp?sku=481052
found this, any suggestions on any others? |
