Hi guys, I'm new and have just bought myself a bass to learn on (or at least try). I was wondering if anyone can recommend a course either in a book/on dvd/on the net to follow as I can't afford lessons at the mo.

Thanks,

Phil

ps. looked at the stickie but I live in the UK and the beginner book mentioned at the start I cannot seem to find

I used Bass for Dummies for a while. Solid book for the basics and to get your started. There are loads of DVDs out there, you should be able to wander into a shop and find one that's designed for beginners.

I really wouldn't sweat who it's by, the basics are pretty much the same across the board, the biggest difference will be how they teach you to apply them, and what exercises they may recommend.

Oh, check Youtube, there are dozens of bass playing tutorials.

Also, in regards to DVDs, I've heard good things about Victor Wooten's.

http://www.studybass.com/
has decent introductory material.

However, the prevailing wisdom is that Lessons will get you farther faster, assuming 1.) you get a decent teacher and especially 2.) you are a good student.

Thanks Joel,

Think I'll start with Dummies guide aswell as it's readily available.

Anyone recommend a web site?

I also play the drums and found Bill Powelson's HSID site a god send.
