It depends on where your at in your Bass playing journey. Try www.bassbooks.com for lot's of selection. It's where I go to drool when I need another book to keep things interesting. |

If you are a beginner, Vol 1 is great. Vol 2 talks a lot about modes and such....great stuff. It really helped me to get a picture of how to construct bass lines, etc. Vol 3 is awesome as far as locking in with your drummer and Vol 4 is just Norm going off......he is a super talented player and very humble.
As far as his Christianity goes, he approaches the bass from a "contemporary praise team setting" but does not bombard you with Scripture at every turn. He talks about the reasons for a Christian bass player to be a part of a church band at the end of Vol 1. I am a Christian so I agree with him BUT again, he always takes the approach (on his dvd's and at his clinics) that not all folks share his views and the point of the instruction is to teach bass playing, not making disciples.
I have the pleasure of calling Norm a friend and I honestly think if you're looking for some excellent all around teaching, this series is hard to beat. If I actually sat down and applied everything he demonstrates in the thing, I would be a MUCH better player than I am today.
Have fun!

Or is it not necessary?

My church has the first two and I'm going to go ahead and order the whole series for myself, along with the charts. Great player and I thought the first two videos were very good. Especially the section on modes in the second one.

The first DVD in the series is out of stock at worshipmusic.com. Hopefully Norm has one laying around!

Amazing to watch him play up close, but has a lot of great advise on the DVD. Last the Victa Wooten and Steve Bailey DVD Bass Extremes. Can be viewed as a concert or with them explaining their approach to each song. Those guys are scary good. |

I'm a newby to bass and this site, but I heard of the following site from a buddy and they look very interesting www.allstarmusiclessons.com. I guess all the guys on the site are L.A. Session players. Take a look and see what you think. | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
