Notation and Word Processing Software

Sign in to disble this ad
I'm looking for software that I can use to make assignments/tests/etc with a combination of text and musical notation.

For example, so I could write out a scale or chord in notation and then write a question about it in text.

Any ideas?

I'm familiar with Finale, thanks though

I'm actually looking for something more text oriented. Like a word processing program that can do notation, not vice versa.

Sibelius will allow you to export musical notation as PDF and you can paste that into a text doc. I'm more than certain that Finale can do that too.

There are a few free musical symbols fonts available on the net.

But will they allow me to draw on a staff?

Actually the MusicalSymbols font does have a "staff" character in addition to the other symbols (clefs, etc.).

I'd typeset if in Finale (or similar), and copy/paste it into the WP of my choice.

Any WP is going to lack for notation even if it's possible, and simlarly notation packages are't going to WP.

You can Google it to find your favorite site. It's a free font.

Create your musical notation/staff in software such as Finale, Band in a Box, or Sibelius. Export the music as a jpg or pdf (or use a screen grab software such as MWSnap).

Import the graphic to MSWord or other word processing software. Add all the formatted text you want.

This is how I create lead sheets with arrangements etc. Works quite well.

Cheers,

Jeff
