numb wrist?

Sign in to disble this ad
over the past few days ive noticed my wrist (right hand) gets tired very easily and then it feels slightly numb on the inside like (weird feeling). and i also feel this in my right arm aswell. im hoping this is just strain from playing a lot? its starting to piss me off quite a bit.

EDIT: have to add, ive been playing as i normally do and ive been having trouble on even the simplest songs ive known for years. whats wrong with me ?

your tendons could be strained. I had major issues years ago, and a physical therapist, got me into hot and cold water treatment. This consists of holding your hands or forearms in as hot of water as you can handle for as long as you can handle, than repeating the same process with ice water. Many doctors will say this doesn't work but Im living testimony. I've been a bass player, and a sheet-metal worker for 23 years, and I can still pick up my bass and play for twelve hours after a hard days work. I've also saved many construction workers from going under the knife with this form of therapy. It does take longer than a day for it to work. but good luck.......brian

I assume you are a right handed player and the problem is with your plucking hand. You may need to check your technique. Do you rest your thumb on the pick up, with your wrist at right angles ? If so, this could be the cause of your problem. The wrist should be straight, without the arm resting on the body of the bass. Warm up with gentle stretches before and after a playing session.

By any chance, do you rest your forearm on the side of the bass?
This is a no-no that compresses tendons while they work and leads straight to carpal tunnel issues.
