"Odd Meter Bass: Playing Odd Time Signatures Made Easy" by Tim Emmons
I would like to mention a very good book on odd time signatures:
"Odd Meter Bass: Playing Odd Time Signatures Made Easy (Book & CD)"by Tim Emmons (Author)
Tim Emmons performs and provides demonstrations straight from his Odd Meter Bass book.
Have seen any of Thomson Kneeland's stuff?
Someday My Prince Will Come in 7/8
All The Things You Are in 11/8
Turn Out the Stars in 5/4
The thing I like about Thomson's approach is that, while the underlying rhythmic concept is based on a specific internal breakdown, once he starts playing it's just as open as playing over 4/4. Not nailed to a specific rhythmic pattern.
I've just checked his personal web-site:
P.S. What is the metronome playing ostinato in "Someday My Prince Will Come"?
You'll have to ask him, he's a member here and posts occasionally. But you can always PM or e-mail him through this site or his website.
Interesting. I've always just counted in my head when it's odd meter until I feel it and don't have to anymore.
