Enjoying Ed's Building Walking Bass Lines right now. I'm putting this (pentatonics) on my next buy list.

Love pentatonics - three chord tones and two safe passing notes. All I need without the bulk of a full 7 note scale or mode. Worth $20 to see how Ed handles pentatonic patterns.

I have the pentatonic one. It's harder than the building walking basslines book. Or maybe it's just me.

What I'm wanting to see is how to use pentatonics - I know what they are and how to move them around with the chord changes, does this book get into the how and when to use pentatonic, i.e. when to use a pentatonic run instead of a chord tone interval pattern?

I haven't seen the book, but I would bet it combines both what the scales are and how to use them over chord changes. Ed wrote at least one article in Bass Player mag (several years ago) that showed what penatonic scales are and how to use them over rock changes.

The Pentatonic book starts with a thorough run through of all the Pent scales (maj & min) in all keys, then has them in a series of 4 technique exercises. Then we look at Pentatonic modes and how to apply them to chord progressions - mostly rock and pop oriented. Then there is a big section on how to apply Pent scales to soloing, and not your typical approach. I show you several different scales to use over any Maj7, min, Dom7 chord - it's a bit more jazz oriented, and more advanced than the first half of the book. Hope you check it out.

Bummer, I like Ed's style of writing, sorry you can not get them. However, pentatonic are everywhere on the Internet. I bet Google can find you something. Worth a try.

The index is on A. This site has some great theory articles. Check out Eric Vandenberg he has some articles on scales and pentatonics. http://www.ibreathemusic.com/article/178

Chris Juergensen also has some pentatonic articles you may like.

Yep it's 6 string -- ignore the top two strings.

Good luck.

i know the pentatonic scales, its just that Ed's books always have something more to offer and you learn to use what you already know in a much better way!

i usually try to get them when some one is coming here from the US. dont know any stores here which keep the books i want. idk if amazon or other e sellers ship here but the shipping would cost around 20-30$ or so atleast and then some times the customs people hold on to them other times they are lost so you never know
amazon doesnt even accept paypal i think and my card doesnt work with most of the US websites

Understand I used to have problems with customs just shipping material into Canada. Had to go through a customs agent to have any luck it getting there when I needed it.

Sorry.

Sorry.
its a real pain, thats why i wish all books had pdf ebook formats too. but then that would cause peer sharing like with all the mp3s then probably they will stop writing these great books like they dont write the great music anymore!
