Does anyone know how you get this fine fine tone, I believe it's Tony Levin tearing it up.

He played a musicman stingray fretless. Not sure what year stingray (though I think it was a pre Ernie Ball yeear which would mean it had an ebony board instead of pao ferro like the ebmm ones), nor am I sure what amp he was playing. Suffice to say though that much of that tone is from Tony's hands.

Might be wrong but isn't this one of the tunes he used the funk fingers on? I seem to remember him using them on it the two times I've seen PG live.

Yeah I'm wrong, NM, checked the live DVD, it's a pick.

I used to do this tune live with an octaver. I don't know how he gets that attack but the octaver does a lot of the work. Great stuff!

Compression too...I think.

Regardless, that is one of THE coolest bass lines ever!

It was his Music Man and He actually double tracked the baseline one octave up on a stratocaster on the studio recording. Live I'm sure he uses an octaver.

He uses a pic and a fretless along with chorus, an octaver and literally one metric butt ton of compression.
