Maybe I am just easily amused, but I am having a lot of fun with the bass line from Peter Gunn theme show song.

I am looking at it as an exercise it repetition. At the moment, I am unable to keep up the pattern the whole song with losing focus and messing up a finger.

First thing I learned on a guitar, so many years ago, and first time I picked up a bass in a shop, I jammed it, got a "wow, you're made for bass, dude" comment or two.

I love this song completly, and still jam it every week with a mate/guitarist.

I once started messing with it, while tuning at a jam session, with a bunch of guitarists, keyboards, drummers, horns, violins, everyone within two loops of the riff had locked in, and rocked it for like 15 minutes, so much fun, so much! We'd jump 3rds and 5ths every few loops, for variety.

Its a simple groove, but sounds fantastic, too much fun to play!

If you're easily amused, so am I, and every musician I've played with.

Thanks for that YouTube link. I really like that Mancini version over the others.

I remember playing this with my high school's big band, I always got lost in it and missed the ending because the bass line was the very definition of repetitive. Still a cool song though.

Out of sheer boredom on the circuit, we would break into a round of "Peter Gunn" as a substitute lead break during Springsteen's "Pink Cadillac" . . .

Okay, technique question...

Listen to the YouTube video link I previously gave...is the bass player sliding/slurring part of that rhythm? Or is another instrument creating that audio effect?
