I am an amateur bass player interested in replicating some simple vintage bass lines. The sound I am looking for has a distinct "click" which is (probably) produced by a very soft pick on flat wound (palm or otherwise muted) strings. Well, in theory that's what I think it is... but I've tried million different settings, EQ, pickups, pick, amps, etc...but I couldn't get close to that sound... Would anyone be kind enough to listen to a 5-10 sec bass line and give me some clue as to what I need to do to get THAT sound.

The song name is "Dance with me" by Engelbert Humperdinck... The intro line contains that particular sound. Otherwise, the period from '65 until mid 70's heavily exploits on percussive qualities of flat wounds... the only problem is that I cannot replicate it

you have a description, sound clip too, so how hard could it be for all of you pros (and cons too ) to come up with some magic trick and let the ole f*rt enjoy this ungodly boring, dull, boomy and else... sound of the early bass enthusiasts who were spoon fed boring lines by equally boring arrangers...
