Hi.
I'm going to apply for a Music Collage ind Denmark, and I'm playing Blue Bossa at my audition.
I really want to do it Latin style, since I've played it before that way and loves to solo over it.
But I'd like to show "judges" that I can also walk well. Would it be a good idea to walk a couple of choruses or "can't" you do that when it's got a latin feel?
Thank you in advance. |

It's amazing when judging, how much you can tell about a musician, no matter what the musician is playing. Perhaps a tasteful fill here and there or utilizing a few different approach methods while sticking to the Latin feel would work. |

After going through the entrance, mid term, and final next week for the navy school of music, I can agree with Billnc. phrasing, feel, tone, Note Choice, and dynamics score more points than "notes per second". Chops and licks are important, but not more so than the fundamentals of good musicianship. If you want to showcase your walking ability play a swingin chart at a fast tempo and stay "in" then get "out". Giant Steps or cherokee ? |

I suggest keeping it simple, don't go all double-time on it (because that's what I really wanted to do, but I restrained myself!). Like everyone is saying - Swing it, don't go all note happy and you'll be fine.
