learning theory i.e. scales chords and rhythm etc will help, but the real important stuff comes when you apply that learning by looking at basslines you like and start understanding
why you like them... once you understand (from a music theory point of view)
what your ear likes, you can throw
some of that into your own basslines at will..
everyone has their own little bag of musical fragments they like to pick & choose from... you might find you love the sound of a major 6 interval slidey up thing to a minor 7, or the sound of a m7 to m3 interval drop over a minor7 chord... whatever floats your boat, learn what it is, then incorporate it into your vocabulary
