Please point me in the right direction to start learning theory...

Long story short, I've been playing for years, but have never concentrated on theory. Please recommend books, websites, dvd's, whatever, that can teach me theory and how it applies to bass from a BEGINNERS level. That's right, I want to start from the very bottom and work my way up. Unfortunately I don't have the time or money for a series of lessons with a teach, but I am willing to put the time in whenever I can get the free time to learn step by step from a book.

One book I've been looking at is: Hal Leonard Bass Method - Complete Edition
Books 1, 2 and 3 Bound Together in One Easy-to-Use Volume!
by Ed Friedland

http://www.amazon.com/Leonard-Bass-M.../dp/0793563836

Is this a good book to start with?

Thanks in advance for any and all suggestions.

Any thoughts?

That first book is an amazing text - it really should be to electric bass what Simandl is/was to the upright bass. You can't go wrong with it. It'll teach you to read, and do everything you need to in order to get you up to speed with theory and the like.

Cool, I will definitely pick up that one. Any other suggestions?

There's a ton of links in the sticky thread above.

also, the link in my sig is where i learned the bulk of my theory (while bouncing questions off of musicians who knew more than I)

If you are starting out this thread may help:
Logical progression of theory?
