I would like an instruction book on five string that I can focus on sight reading and getting familiar with the fingerboard.
I am very familiar with the four string and can sight read reasonably well. I find sight reading from instruction book lessons over different positions on the neck gives me the best understanding of the fingerboard, muscle memory and recognition of notes.
For four string bass I have Chuck Rainey's first method book and the "Essential Elements 2000" series for upright both of which I think are excellent. I have many other books that I just don't use as they are not "musical" enough or are frankly too difficult. In that category are Carol Kay's books, Simandl and Sturm.
So that should give you a decent idea of what I'm looking for in a five-string book.
