Hello I have been playing bass for a little more than a year and a half. I have had an instructor for one year. I know basic theory, circle of fifth, major, minor, 7, chords, arpeggios, pentatonic scales. I know some songs californiacation, all my loving (beatles), come together, most of my girl, hound dog, and some others.
Well I have have an easy semester at school and I have a lot of free time to practice. I can play some parts by ear, and try to use this software that slows down the music to help. I also play with a metronome or the recording at times.
But I dont feel like I am improving. I can practice around 2 hours or more a day, but I want to be moving forward. Should I learn new songs ( I was thinking of some different genres to learn like reggae), spend time transcribing, or any other ideas. I tend to like to do a lot of thing at once, like ill try to transcribe some parts of a song, then do another song, without completing either one. I also try to understand the theory behind the bass parts I transcribe. I was thinking of transcribing Abbey Road by the Beatles. The whole album.
I want to eventually learn slap/pop but I want to become very good at some thing, than be okay at everything. |
