I am meeting up with my drummer tomorrow because the rest of the band is away for a week,...what are some good exercises to build tightness between us? Any recommendations welcome.

Just jam together. Get in tight with each others style. Once you guys click and are able to read each other it makes for great music.

Make something up, then have him follow it, listen to each other playing and fit in with what they're doing, don't try to take complete rein of it, just make sure you both let it flow. Take turns starting off, you start off with a bass line, then when y'all get done jamming over that, let the drummer take off with a beat and you follow.

It also helps o get a metronome involved and don't just work on fast stuff....that is actually easier than playing really slow stuff and keep it interesting and rhythmic at the same time...learn to use space between notes...work on dynamics...and syncopation....as a bass player lean to ALSO be part of the percussion in the way you play the notes...for hand exercise..I sometimes use different fingers ie if you are right handed and normally use your right index and middle fingers to pluck the strings try your middle and ring fingers or you ring and pinkie and still play with the same accuracy as your first and middle fingers....this will come in handy if you ever get a hand cramp while playing....let this video clip be an insperation to us ALL! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k5ThulqDmKc
