Practice Leads To EMERGENCY!

Sign in to disble this ad
So I was practising for an hour and when I finished, walked to the computer and felt something odd when I pressed the keys on the keyboard. I have a blood-filled blister on my middle finger.

Now the problem is I have a jam in 2 hours time and a gig in about 2 weeks. Any home remedies to get rid of it?
Also I can't use a pick because I am really sloppy with them
Thanks

There are tons of home remedies (go to this question on y! answers) for blisters, but you could just put some superglue on your blistered finger too temporarily fix the problem for your jam.

Pop the blister from the side. Not directly into the bubble but a little ways away. Squeeze the fluid out then coat the tip of your finger in super glue. It'll work for now and the tip will harden in a few days.

Remember to pop the blister in front of wife/girlfriend/mom/sister. They will enjoy it.

This is not something I'll do straight away - I'll wait 2 or 3 days for a new skin to grow underneath, then pop it...

Doesn't help when he's got to jam with a "pillow" on the end of his finger. I usually give them a day or two as well but when you got to jam you got to jam!

In these cases I pluck with an index finger/ring finger combination until the blister goes away.

same here. usually when i practice i'll try using the index/ring once in a while so when these situations do arise, i can be flexible.

Also, lighten up your touch to prevent future blisters.

Yep, I sliced an index finger badly once, learned a whole new technique on a gig that night.

Pee on your blister!!!

honestly, it is an old upright-player trick that turns blisters into calluses, or to just toughen up your hands. it works fairly quickly too... so, hop in the shower!

In my 45 plus years playing I have had a lot of different maladies such as this. You already have the short term advice which is good. My advice for the long term is this:

REGARDLESS of your PREFERED technique's

learn to play with a pick

learn to pluck with your thumb (old school style)

learn to slap ( I am learning this even though I hoped it would go away for 30 yrs. LOL )

learn to use AT LEAST 3 fingers on your right hand for finger style

learn to tap

learn hamer on's and pull off's

all of these things will allow you to get through a night or two of injured body parts and you will be a better player all round for it!

and when you hurt REST IT lighten up, change positions, change your strap length. TAKE A BREAK you don't HAVE to go to that jam. take a few nights off for YOU !!!
