Practicing in odd time signature

Sign in to disble this ad
I am learning one song where time sig is 6/8, I have two questions:

a) How to set up the metronome for 6/8 where a dotted quarter note is 78bmp ( I have a boss DB-30 if that matters)

b) How to count, is it only One and Two and Three and One...?

setting up a metronome in 6/8 requires a special function on the machine itself.

a good online metronome would be:
http://advanced.bestmetronome.com/

I use this one all the time to practice odd timings.

counting 6/8 would be like counting "one and two and three and"
or alternatively just "one two three", depending on if you need the eights.

At that tempo, I'd be thinking:

ONE two three, FOUR five six or ONE and a, TWO and a

This makes sense and clear, I was counting 1 and 2 and 3 and ...but I was lost with the downbeat.
