How many hours do you guys practise a day? I have been playing for four years and I play 4 hours a day. Just wondered whether my practise time is average, below or above average.
Cheers

I have been playing for seven months and I practice when ever I have the time. I usually make a list of the things I want to get done. Right now I do a spider exercise/warmup, I go through Book 3 of Ed Friedland's Bass Methond, go over my scales and modes, improv in different keys with a backing track, learn a new song and finally work on my old songs or current songs. What does everyone think about this little practice routine?

I try to make it to six hours a day, but I need to get better at managing my time to make that a reality. Sometimes I get seven or eight hours in, sometimes I only get one hour in or none at all.

Maybe an hour a day.

Possible better question: what do you guys do when you practice?

There are plenty of thread about that, but it doesn't hurt to discuss it again, it ties in well with amounts of practice, too. A well thought out and planned practice of 45 minutes a day can be way more productive than 2 or 3 hours. I find anything past 4 hours in a day and I just can't focus enough to get anything done really, and at that point I'm playing not practicing, which it is often mistaken for. Especially so if I don't break up the sessions into 45ish minute intervals through out the day, evening or whatever.

Also, a lot of my practice is not on the instrument exactly, such as ear training, theory, transcribing, singing the parts, and maybe some attempts at arranging.
