Progressive Blues Jam Band

My friend recently asked me to join a progressive blues jam band (as the title suggests), similar to Jimi Hendrix. What scales, techniques, pedals, theory stuff, anything should I know or get?

Bone up on regular blues theory, pentatonics, 1-4-5s, chromatic runs and the like, then get a fuzz pedal and buy some psychedelics.

Just kidding. kinda.

I play in a Country jamming band - no sheet music - you rely, strike that - I rely on my ear and I assume the chord progression will be a I IV V until proven wrong. Course it's Country. Less is more.

Lot of roots and fives with chromatic runs to the next chord get the groove going. After that roots, fives, eights and the correct 3 and 7 do what I need.

What I'm trying to say is you have be to comfortable with your knowledge of what will and will not work, then have the confidence to go do it.

O'h yea, if your head is not moving you are not grooving.

Have fun.

+1

Gotta know the basics before you can get progressive. Though I don't remember seeing/hearing Noel or Billy using any fuzz pedals. From what I've read the fuzz came from the bass speakers being over driven. (Though I could be wrong-they used a lot of effects in the studio.) Check out Hendrix's entry in Wikipedia.
