Question about Paquito's Guataca City

Sign in to disble this ad
I'm am beginning to work on Guataca City for one of my bands and to be honest, latin is not a strength of mine yet (just ordered the "Latin Bass Book"). Is this song an example of a tumbao (sp?) latin groove? If not, what is it. Also, any pointers on "feeling" or internalizing the clave for this song would be appreciated so I can open it up a bit during the solo sections. I want to have it ready for rehearsal on Sunday

Thanks in advance for the info.

GREAT song! Have fun with it! If you think 'and of 2' and '4' you'll be on the right track. Lead the chord changes on beat 4 of the "previous" bar and dig in.

BTW, that entire album is just ridiculous. Paquito's version of "All The Things You Are" is out of this world.
