Question about position locations.

Quick question from a puking newbie pleab.

Where are first, secon, third, fourth and fifth position?

i'm not quite sure, but i believe it's something like this: with most basses, there are at least 20 frets. if you follow the one finger per fret method, the first position would start at the first fret(index finger for first fret, middle second, ring third, pinky fourth), the second position would start from the fifth fret(with fingers placed in the aforementioned order), the third position begins on the ninth fret, and so on.

Technically Half position is the open and 1st 3 frets. 1st is the first four 2nd is frets 2-5 and so on. bourbon;s way seems like it would make more sense but unfortunatly thats not how it its.
