Questions about "Amazing Slow Downer" software

Sign in to disble this ad
I have downloaded the free trial version of this software, and will purchase the full package if I can figure it out.

My teacher wants me to work on transcribing bass lines from jazz standards. His suggestion is to set up a loop to play one or two bars of the song until I have that section figured out, and then advance to the next two bars.

I know how to set up the initial loop, but I can't figure out an easy way to set up the next loop without resetting the Start and Stop points and then searching for the next points.

Is it possible to "advance" the loop while keeping the same amount of time so it will loop the next successive two bars?

He uses a Tascam Bass Trainer to do this.

I have the Amazing Slower Downer also.

I don't know of a way to take the looped section as a whole and move it along the track of the song.

But notice that the start time and finish times are given. Just set the start at the current end time and move the end to the same increment of time (5 sec or whatever) from the start.

You could loop a longer passage and just slow the track down. Then position the mouse/cursor along the progress bar and back the track up to where you need to repeat for learning a difficult measure or two. Play along, click, play along, click, etc...

Good luck with it. I love it and also have the tascam mp3 unit. I like ASD better for learning details and the tascam for running songs without all the pc and cabling to my headphone amp.

Give Transcribe a look. It's an all around awsome program and it's able to slow down or speed up A LOT without lossing sound quality. Really great program.

Don't waste your money with ASD.

Transcribe as mentioned above is the only program you'll need. Tons of keyboard shortcuts to everything: looping sections, speed, pitch, EQ, etc. You can also hook up a MIDI foot controller to do it entirely hands-free.

Oh, and did anyone mention, Transcribe also does videos?

youtube.com + keepvid.com + Transcribe = woodshed heaven

Another vote here for Transcribe!
In fact, I just got done playing a number of tunes with it that I had transcribed.

We should start a Transcribe! bass players user group to share
transcribed bass lines. As great as Transcribe! is, transcribing is
still work. I have several good tunes transcribed. I use the text
boxes to label the bars and notes.

I like the idea of sharing transcribed bass lines. Does anyone have a transcription of Autumn Leaves by Cannonball Aderly that I can show my teacher?

just bought the slowgold.....that is the one I am going with, and it seems to be working kinda cool.

it has a digital option, and when you slow stuff down, it is very clear.

any one else use this slowgold thing?

It might not have all the bells-and-whistles you're looking for, but you should take a gander at Best Practice, a free and open-source software.

Here's the blurb:

Quote:
BestPractice is a musician's practice tool, to slow down or speed up music, either from an MP3 file or directly from a CD. Ordinarily the sound is distorted when slowed down our sped up - you get the effect like when playing a 33 rpm record on 45 rpm speed (remember the Chipmunks?). BestPractice tries to correct this, so you can slow down and speed up music, while keeping the original pitch. It is also possible to change the pitch of the music without affecting its tempo. Play along with for instance Eb tuned guitars without retuning your own, or slow down that high-speed guitar solo on a CD that you like to learn.
Takes a few seconds to download & install; pretty easy & basic interface too. Oh yeah, it's also got a looping section!

Whoa, Whoa, Whoa!

I own slowdowner but if Transcribe will find chords automatically (it looks like that's whats going on in that picture there), I might have to make the investment.

EDIT: So yeah it does...I kinda want it now...although it would probably make it way to easy to get out of using my ears and that's probably not a good thing for me.

Best Practice works for me. Just used it on "Boogie On Reggae Woman" - we play it in G, Stevie plays it in Ab. Being able to keep it at tempo but drop it a half-step - wonderful.
