quick question about style and one about tempo

I'm a bit confused about this.

What defines a style ex. how do you define bossa.

A blues could maybe be defined by the typical chord progression..

And is tempo only the speed?
Like with on tempo and ballad..

Here is a music dictionary I have found helpful.
http://www.music.vt.edu/musicdictionary/

Several different meanings for tempo.
Style again several different things shown, boils down to it is just the "style" of a particular music. For example:
"A distinctive performance practice that differentiates music performed by a specific ensemble or artist from that same music performed by any other ensemble or individual."

Can not address "bossa" as I do not play that style of music. Now old time Country's style is major, dirt simple progressions, two to three chords mostly. The story is the focus of the music. With out the story no reason for the song. So the lyrics and the vocalist are an important part of the music.

Tempo is the speed, as expressed in Beats per minute.
If there are other uses for the term in the context of music, they are rare.

To define Blues only by the typical chord progression would be sorely lacking, Style is more complex to define.

at the most basic level it will involve a characteristic Rhythm, characteristic Harmonies /Chord progressions,Characteristic scales, Characteristic song forms, and a characteristic ensemble.

an important consideration is that, while we may focus on what the bass does in a style, the relationship between the various instrument's parts has much to do with defining a style, and learning all the typical parts for each instrument is invaluable. Learning Latin styles really drives this point home.
