So i have been playing for about a year, and i have been told im pretty decent (then again, i dont have many friends that know a lot about music). I just dont know how to get better. I am open to play anything. I come here asking if there is a single book or anything that you guys would recommend to me so i can get better. I have just started reading bass clef, so it doesn't have to be tabs.
I just watch these videos on youtube of people playing and i just ask myself "how to i get like this?" i know it takes years of practice, i just dont know where to start.

tl;dr: need suggestions on the best books to buy that will help me get better.

In which particular ways musically and technically, what kind of stuff do you listen to and like and where do you want to go with it?

Try this Bach Cello Suite from Cliff Engel's site, it is a cool musical piece for practice, involves quite a bit of string crossing and spanning, also people dig it because they recognise it and like to listen. I play it in standard tuning, not cello, the tab included is for cello tuning, not too difficult to get around reading-wise but harder in standard tuning to play, trickier fingerings.

not a book, but have you worked out the chord tones in all 12 keys, then once you have that down a book(s) like friedlands walking bass.....and listen to and learn as much as you can from youtube,records..... a good teacher would be an asset....

Those videos you see on youtube...have you ever tried learning them yourself? Just take it slow, and work on it slowly.

Look up other videos of a similar vein to the videos that interest you.
