First off, how do you guys practice?
Second, do any of you think that one is better than the other?

If you mean reading notation practice, I work on intervals. So when I'm reading the music the first thing that goes through my head is the interval and sometimes (not always though) the pitch. Does that make sense?

If you see an F# and then a B (above) you should work toward being able to say "perfect fourth" instantly etc. I don't work on that stuff at all anymore, its pretty much in my head.

both can work.....i take breaks, but if i'm in the zone, and not getting tired why not go longer.....getting up for a coffee helps to stay in focus

I do my note reading studies in one long session. I do it first thing every morning. Some things, ear training most notably, are better in short sessions throughout the day. Ear training is menial and tedious when first starting out and I got frustrated easily. Your problem of focus may also be solved by practicing first thing in the morning when you are not tired from a day at work.

Thanks for the tip. I'll try this out tomorrow. I do find that I have far less focus after work. Good thing I have plenty of time; work starts at noon for me.
