Not a problem as everything you sing and play at the same time would be in the same pitch (key). Normally the vocalist sets the key, so if you sing in G play in G. Guys normally sing in G or D, baritone or bass voices like E, gals like A or G.
Now, when in church do you only sing the songs that are in G? No, I bet you do OK with most of them. Sure some of the high notes may not come out just right, but we all can sing in several keys. That out of the way ......
OK HOW TO -- This works for me. As you are playing the song start singing the lyrics under your breath - I have to do this anyway to keep up with the chord changes - in a week or so I bet you can start singing out loud. Join in on the chorus right at first, i.e. play backup guitar and sing backup vocals. Don't worry about three part harmony - most untrained guys sing melody and never do get to harmony. How do you sing and play at the same time. Practice - join in on the chorus.
Singing the blues - now that is a little different, a whole different World really. Old Blues involved a call, and then a response in unison
from all the field hands -- the call and response feel of the blues. Listen to B. B. King. He will call and then his guitar responds. B. B. says he has a conversation with his guitar. I suggest you first learn how to sing those 60/70's covers and let that take you into singing the blues.
Have fun.
