Rehearsal dynamics and setup?

This might be a stupid question but how do you position your gear when playing in a band rehearsal setting? Left ear for guitar, right for drums, singer in the middle with PA all around? I don't know, I'm asking because I don't.

Personal Preference

Whenever rehersing always be concious of what is going on around you. Find the levels of whats going on from each instrument and adjust accordingly. When I first started.... long ago, I separated myself somewhat to hear the levels and focused on the drummer first and foremost as any bassist I think should. Just relax focus on your relationship with your drummer and gradually bring in the rest. The singing and guitar play will fall into place. The bass and drums are to rythm and tone setters. After your comfortable with what your drummer is doing and WILL DO, by all means do what you can to f:C# up your guitarist. LOL. MOST IMPORTANT THING IS TO ENJOY WHAT YOU ARE DOING.

My opinion:Set up like you would gig, if you have the room.
If you have the space, choose one wall of the room and say "that's the audience", arrange yourselves accordingly. Typically this means drummer in the back and everyone else in front. I set up on the snare/hi-hat side of the drummer. This way , when you get onstage at gig, presto! it's what you're used to.

PA would be used to monitor so speakers against the "audience" wall, facing the band. Mics pointed away form the speakers, towards the vocalist. If you are using a PA for anything besides vocals, you are probably turning up/drumming too loud.

Lately we've been doing what skeew1586 said, finding levels and places all can hear without any PA.

But I think mambo4 has a point in there. I'll suggest it in our next rehearsal.
