im currently looking for a teacher in the rochester NY area...let me know if anyone is interested in this proposition, and also let me know if you know of anyone who would be able to do so.

im currently taking lessons, learning a lot of theory but not too much technique, my current teacher is good cuz he knows a lot but isnt too smokin good technically, so interested to see what else is out there, also interested in learning more jazz.

I'm about to go to my lesson with Fred Stone, he's a good teacher and he lives in the Park Avenue area.

He plays Electric Bass too.

Who is your teacher right now?

In my opinion at least, the best bass teachers in Rochester are Fred Stone, as mentioned above, and Ralph Ortiz, who teaches at Northfield Music in Pittsford. They are both well respected as both teachers and musicians. You can't go wrong with either of those guys.

Hi Rochesterians,
although i have not taken lessons with Mr. Stone i heard he's really good plus his credentials are quite something.
Berklee,Eastman and i heard he's the principal of the bass department at Hockstein.
Now i'll have to check with this guy Ralph Ortiz.
btw nice to know there's more people here from ROC

I visited Fred's site and I saw pics of Joe Santora (piano). That's so cool. When I was in college, he directed the jazz band. Fred sounds great on his mp3's; impressive bio too.

Mind if I ask who you study with?

Anyways Id reccomend finding Chuck Bianchi too. Im not entirely sure if he teaches but if youre looking for a man with theory technical ability and credentials hes your man. chuck@dreamingoutloud.net shoud be his email adress.

Ralph does it all. Whatver is necessary.
If you are interested in lessons, you can call Northfield Music, where he teaches. The phone number is 586-4662.

He has a myspace page, but it is pretty incomplete at the moment. It just lists some of the people he has worked with and stuff. There are a couple studio tracks on there too.
