Sign in to disble this ad
Hi all,
The Police - Roxanne (live Japan 2008) - YouTube
Between 0:47 - 0:57
Sting slides down than he makes this pop sound and slides up.
Could someone please explain to me how do i make this pop sound?
Tried it many times, watched it many times in slow motion and its still a big mystery for me...
Thanks!

seems like it could be a standard pop, pulling out on the string. A pop slide on the d or g string

i think what he does there (twice) is fret with index and slide up the neck,
then either with his thumb or with a quick flamenco fingernail flick,
hits a higher note and slides down, probably fretting with ring or pinky,
so that finally he can catch the next "real" note of the song with index.

that, or, like others have said, he could be tapping it with his thumb and sliding down with his right hand.
if you were gonna do this live, both would sound and look cool

Sting sort of uses a guitar fingerpicking method for bass. I'm going guess he slides up and frets the C? with his left and plucks it with his ring, middle or index finger of his right hand.

Just guesses though.

Piece of cake. Hit the C on the A string, slowly slide it up, then hit the C on the G string 17th fret and slide immediately back down. What fingers you use are immaterial. Back in the day, Sting did that same lick with a pick.

It sounds like he strums the string with at least two fingers
