Rva what is used for going down an octave?

The title says it all. I remember a post using the Rva to indicate going up scale to the next octave, but, have forgotten what was used for going down scale. It was not Rvd....... What is the accepted notation?

Rva? Not seen that myself. Normally it's 8va or 8vb; a=above, b=below.

Strictly speaking, 8va comes from the Italian ottava and 8vb from ottava bassa.

Also note that the word "loco" is used to show a return to the written octave.

Yup - or this can be indicated by the end of the dotted line parallel to the staff.
