Scale Approach

Sign in to disble this ad
Hello, Ive recentley been working my way through "Ed Friedland's Building Walking Basslines" as I belive thats a great way to learn as jazz has so much in it. It begins to mention the sclae approach but doesnt explain it very well at all. It says approaching the target note from the sclae tone below or above does this mean a Major second or a..7th? Not quite sure.

Thanks Blair

Whatever your target note is, the approach note is the noten of the scale that's either above or below. So, for a Dmin G7 progression, your scale is C major (because they're ii V of C). *now, if your taget note is B, the scale note above is C and the scale note below is A. If your targert is F, the lower approach note is E, the higher is G.
