Session Bass playing....

Sign in to disble this ad
Iv been looking in to this and there seems to be two parts too it.

Studio and Live Performance

I Would love to get in to session playing but im eager to get to know more about the live performance side of things with stepping in when needed.

Im already in a Band already so all my ideas and creative side of things will all be focused on that

I Love Playing Live and i have an awesome time doing so, so thinking why not give this ago and if i can, Gain some more EXP and make a few pennys out of it?

Iv done a bit of reading around and found one or two things. just after some more?

Like how do you get in to it?

how do you know the music, do they send it to you prior and then you have a practice before, or do they just give you the music on paper and you improvise?

Do you stick around for the whole night or just show up, do your stuff and go? (Id be more than happ to show up, set my self up, and help set up every one else were i can and then the sa,e with packing everything away)

How much should you charge a night?

Anything else you need to consider or could pass on?

Im not talking on big scale side of things, More realistic like around my area in clubs and pubs when people need a stand in bass player.

So yeah, any help and advice much appreciated

Cheers

the main thing is networking with the folks who have the best gigs in town and somehow demonstrate that you're one of them. you'll find as many approaches to preparing and pay scales as there are people, so be prepared for anything. in the beginning, just do what it takes to get out there and forget about money.
