I've listened to the song a million times and never really thought about it. I just gave it a quick listen, and if I were transcribing it, I would probably write everything in the first part up to the sax solo in 3/4 or possibly 6/4, and then then sax solo in 12/8. For the second part, I would write the guitar solo in 12/8, and then back into 3/4 (or 6/4) at 5:10 just before the vocals come back in.

I could totally google this, but I find this site a much better resource. How would 6/4 work? I understand 4 beats to a bar in 4/4 but thats all i got...

Each quarter note is 1 beat, and there are six quarter notes to a bar. It is exactly like 3/4 except that there are twice as many beats in each measure.

totally agreed. for me it's all in the feel of where the beat is strongest combined with what's easiest to write. the main part of the song to me is totally 3/4 or 6/4 because of the way the beats fall, and i think it would be easier to read if it was in 6/4.
