Listen to Lloyd Brevett with the Skatalites and learn his lines.

The utmost basic ska bassline would consist of major and minor triads and pentatonics. Of course there are plenty of ways to mix it up but I find that when trying to figure out a ska bass line that those are very common.

play just a bit behind the beat, and and listen to the rhythmic patterns.

A great ska line that is easy to play, "Just like Clockwork" by The Lower Class Brats.

also, listen to Judge Dread, The Specials, and anything with Aston Barrett.

Ira Coleman lays down some great lines on Ernest Ranglin's Below the Bassline, and they are generally pretty straight forward. Muting the strings helps to mimic the DB tone, sort of.

With ska, it dont mean a thing if it ain't got that swing. Live by that.
