Slap, thumb position question.

Sign in to disble this ad
I'm getting fairly competant at playing slap bass but I've noticed that most good slap players play with their slapping thumb angled up towards their their fret hand shoulder. Was wondering what the advantage of this is.

When I'm playing double thumb I use that kind of a thumb position but for slap and pop I often have my thumb angled downwards, espeacily if I am popping the same string I am slapping or the string just under it. Should I be trying to break this habit?

If it works for you, do it.

I play with my thumb nearly perpendicular to the strings. If the technique isn't hurting you, then stick with it!

+1, if its working for you do it, as long as there is NO pain.
