Slow Left hand

Sign in to disble this ad
My left hand isn't reallly slow but it could definately be faster is there any excercises or things I could do to speed it up. My fingers move independently pretty welll but moving along the fretboard my hand is slow.

Subscribed. I feel like my right hand has progressed dramatically more than my left hand since I started playing.

You need to practice everything exceptionally slow. I'm being serious about this. Just trying to play whatever exercise you have as fast as possible won't let your brain build the proper connections with your hands that gives you the speed you want.

Buy one of the good 'Bass Grooves' books out there and work through it. By the time you reach the end, your left (and right) hand will be in a different class.

I've got this one (http://shop.jonliebman.com/product.s...=1&productId=6) - not a bad choice at all! And the nice thing is that its author (Jon Liebman) is a member of this forum, in case you need some assistance...

Well the thread is under 'Bass Guitar Forums > General Instruction [BG]', so we should not really have to guess here...

Different arpeggios have really helped me to build up strength in the left hand. And then of course learning different scales and modes both vertically and horizontally. But make sure you start slowly! Trying to go as fast as you can right away will probably do more harm than good. I strongly suggest using a metronome and getting a cool feel with a mode (I like doing a triplet thing), and then speed the metronome up 10 BPMs whenever you feel like you're comfortable with the speed you're at. Your hand will feel like it's on fire, but that's a good thing (unless you take it TOO far).

There are stacks of downloadable mp3's out there to practice with. Slow it down with Audacity and have fun!
