some slap help

Sign in to disble this ad
ive been playin bass for about a month now, got a nice 5-string bass i like alot and ive been learnin to slap and pop and ive got the feel for it now. but my question is that when i slap, it gives me the sound but it sounds dirty, not like the funky sound i like and hear in songs in stuff. i dunno if maybe i need to raise the strings (its not hitting the frets real bad, unless right when i hit it), or maybe im hitting it too hard or i need new strings. any help you guys could give would be great. thanks

That is awesome that your first bass is a five string. You will have a lot of fun with that. What kind of bass do you have? Some basses are great for slapping while others could be better. What I would suggest is taking a lesson or two with a good slap instructor so they can help you solve it. There are probably a few that participate in this forum that are in your area. There are also beginner resources on how to play slap, you can check out Jeff Warrens instructional media.

soundgears are great bases, the real cheap starter pack was my first one and the 905 is my current one, it kicks ass.

try messing with your tone knobs...set them all to flat, so the bass mid and treb are all about 50%, now raise the bass just a TINY bit, raise the treble a bit, and cut the mids back a bit.
now try doing the same thing to your amp(what kind is it)
