Some Small But Tricky Problems with Soul to Squeeze

Sign in to disble this ad
"Soul to Sqeeze" by the Red Hot Chili Peppers that is. I am having some problems with the parts right after the intro and it's driving me crazy. I have already looked at the TAB and at a published songbook, but they both leave those parts out and seem to be incorrect at some other places, too. In my opinion the song doesn't quite work without getting this exactly right and I would really appreciate any help.

This is what I got so far. It also describes where I am having problems:

Code:
Intro

then:

G|: ----------------------------
D|: -------------------2-3------
A|: ---------3-3-2-3-5-----1----
E|: 1-1--3/5--------------------
Right here between the C and the D (3 and 5) something is missing (hammer-on/slide?)

G|: -------------------------------
D|: -------------------------------
A|: --5-5---5-88--8----------------
E|: ------5-----6---8------3-----6\
Same thing here between the D and the F (5 and 8), something is missing

G|: --------------------------------
D|: -------------------2-3-----888--
A|: ---------3-3-2-3-5-----1--------
E|: 1-1--3/5------------------------
Again the missing note(s) between the C and the D
But there is also something going on with the E (2) this time

G|: -------------------------------
D|: -------------------------------
A|: --5-5---5-8---8----------------
E|: ------5-----6---8------3-----6\
              Same issue as before

then the singing starts.

Dang It-

I don't have access to the recording here...could it be a ghost note that you hear?
When you say "it's between the C & D", could it be a ghosted(X-note) note...maybe played with the OPEN A(or OPEN E) or a muted/ghosted note where C# is played(between C & D).

Flea isn't afraid of ghosting.

I have uploaded an excerpt for you. The quality is not the best though, since it has been re-compressed. (I hope this is not too illegal )

Too me it sounds more like another slide, but I can't quite make it out.

Sounds like he's sliding into the note...the tune almost has a fretless vibe about it.
One of his better performances, IMO.

Rather than a schooled-perfect arch/finger-per-fret method...be a little more loose with it.

Wrong link. Sorry. Plus you obviously don't understand the program Powertab, it will help you. Bottom line. http://www.power-tab.net/downloads.php

But yeah, you do use a mac... sorry.

I have figured out a way to play that part that is in my opinion more accurate than any other transcriptions I have seen. But the differences are not too big. If anyone really cares I can tab it out. Otherwise, thanks for the help.

Sure. Remember, that this is only the part between the intro and the Verse. The verse is close, but a little different. This TAB is based on someone elses, I just made corrections.

Code:
Intro

then:

G|: ------------------------------------------------------
D|: ------------------------------------------------------
A|: ------------3--3--2--3--5h4(4)/5--7--8----------------
E|: 1--1---3/5--.------------------.--------6-----------B-
    .

G|: -----------------------------------------------------
D|: -----------------------------------------------------
A|: --5--5-----5h7(7)/88---8-----------------------------
E|: --.-----5-----------6--.--8---(8)\--B--3---B-6--(6)\-

G|: -------------------------------------------------------------
D|: ----------------------------------------------------8-8-8----
A|: ------------3--3--2--3--5h4(4)/5-(5)/7--8--------------------
E|: 1--1---3/5--.------------------.------------6----------------
    .

G|: -----------------------------------------------------
D|: -----------------------------------------------------
A|: --5--5-----5h7(7)/8----8-----------------------------
E|: --.-----5-----------6--.--8---(8)\--B--3---B-6--(6)\-

then:

VERSE

All the slides are legato slides

B = Break (8th)

. = Staccato
