Some (sort of) instruction on Colombian music

Hi everybody.

Maybe I should post this in the "Recordings" subforum but, since I'm sure that very few fellow TalkBassers know about music from my country, I thought this is a better place.

I've just uploaded to YouTube a couple of videos showing examples of music from Colombia. The video notes will allow you to know what they are about, so please read them before watching (notes in Spanish and English).

Hope you find them interesting. Feel free to ask whatever you want to know about these tunes/genres/performances. Here are the links:

Thanks for watching!

Pretty sweet. Thanks for sharing. I've actually been looking at trying to figure out some salsa basslines myself.

Thanks Alvaro! I'm dating a Colombian girl now so I'm learning all about salsa, merengue, and cumbia.

Thanks for posting these, Alvaro. The line in that first tune ("La Candelosa") is SMOKING. I believe you when you say this: Una de las mejores líneas de bajo latino (tropical) en existencia.

It's always nice to have one's ignorance alleviated a little bit. Aside from the singer-songwriter Claudia Gomez (of whom I'm a fan), I know basically nothing about Colombian music. Now at least I know a little more than nothing....
