The song that, once you learned, you knew you could play bass

Sign in to disble this ad
I've asked other bass players what was the song that, when they started out, they never thought they could play. And then one day they finally figured out how to play well and then knew they could actually play bass.

For me it was Old Brown Shoe by the Beatles. I learned exclusively on Beatles songs and that one always seemed like a Holy Grail of bass songs. I figured I would never learn it or be able to play it.

I did finally learn it and now it seems so easy to me. It opened my eyes to the fact that I could learn any bass song.

Any other stories?

This exact thing just happened to me yesterday. The song that really made me want to play bass was YYZ i figured id learn it somewhere around my 10th year or some other crazy length but i actually played through it perfectly yesterday and i know i can pretty much play anything if i try hard enough at it.

this is my favorite song to play, and one of flea's best IMO, but it's pretty easy to play.

Young Lust by Pink Floyd. Listening to it I thought it was a monster of a song. Then I sat down with it. Either it's easier than I thought or I have just gotten better. Let's hope for the latter. Either way, it gave me a lot of confidence for learning other songs.
