Sound clips of some cello etudes

Heres one I just did, first time using my mac to record anything. I apologize for looking so out of it, I think I might still be a littlw woozy from last night!

This is Dotzauer #24. I recorded two versions: one with metronome and one without out.

I plan on putting up the whole book as time allows, that way at least I have a record of it.

These are great etudes to work on the fundamentals: left hand one finger per fret technique, alternating right hand two finger technique, economy of motion, reading of course, and fingerboard awareness.

Enjoy my first attempt!

How about connecting the notes? It. Sounds. Like. This. Sometimes. Strict. Alternation. Of. Right. Hand. Fingers. Isn't. The. Best. Solution.

Even though the etude is all 8th notes, try connecting them in 6 note groups and let the music flow and breathe more.

I agree.

Sometimes, such as when crossing down on the strings, its okay to rake the same finger, however, the purpose of this is not so much to make it as cello-like and legato as possible- that ain't gonna happen on a fretted bass- the purpose is to consciously focus on alternating fingers.

I liken these to martial arts forms-the fundamentals are for the sake of strict discipline.

Thank you for posting this. A World I've not traveled in.
I went to http://www.sheetmusicplus.com/look_i...0/image/152004

Found #24 would appreciate you walking me through what you did with #24. Were you using just this two bar allegro or were you working from an expanded sheet of music. If just from that 2 bar, I'll use the word segment, you moved beyond that - where and why? You expanded on it. A few words on how do I use something like this as an exercise would be appreciated? Sounds like something I should be looking into.

Again, thank you.

The link you posted is indeed from Dotzauer, but is not the etudes themselves.

Those are the first two bars of each etude from the book.

Sometimes in the book itself, Dotzauer has little blurbs like that at the bottom of the page that have different articulation markings; encouraging the player to try different ways of phrasing and articulating the music.

I see that website has the book for 9 bucks.... a screamin deal.
