Hey, gentlemen. And ladies. Them, too.
I will be auditioning for an international jazz band in about a month, and I'm in need of a standard jazz tune to record and send in as an audition.
I've been recommended for the position, so I need to take seriously the fact that I have a real shot at this.
I've spoken with a few people, who've recommended Miles' 'So What' and a few others. I'm interested to hear, though, what my brethren on the low end would recommend as a display of both skill and perfection in simplicity (comfortable walking, basically.) It needs to be a standard, but I'm sure the definition of a standard is pretty lenient. No neo-funk-jazz fusion, basically.
Also, any recommendations as to where I can find "karaoke-style" tracks where I can pull out the bass and play along would be appreciated.
Thanks,
~Wes |

Bass on one channel, piano/guitar on the other, so you just kill whatever channel you don't want.

Thanks, man!
Also, thanks for removing the snarkiness |

It's supposed to be straight-ahead, four on the floor walking right? If that's the case, I'd suggest "Autumn Leaves", "Summertime", "Mr. P.C", and "So What" or "Impressions". If I think of anymore I'll recommend them.

"our love is here to stay", "my shining hour", "there will never be another you", "solar", "someday my prince will come", "alone together", "beautiful love", "stella by starlight"
the list is really endless. i'd say listen to some classic cd's, and pick a couple tunes that stand out to you

I'll follow j. stemmler's idea and suggest some others you can do:
Minority
Misty
Oliloqui Valley

I'm a fan of Stella By Starlight, especially after hearing the Alan Baylock Jazz Orchestra play it live. Rudreax, thanks for your suggestions - I've yet to procure the real book, but I need to. It's been on my to-do list for some time now.
