starting lessons, max profit?

For the first time in a couple years of playing I'll be attending bass lessons.

These lessons take only 1 hour every 2 weeks, imo this is a long time for just 1 hour.

I allready know some theory like ii V I's and improvising on them.

But generally my technique sucks..
Can't really play while counting or even get a nice consistent tone and accuracy.

How should i get a maximal rendement from these lessons?
Should I ask him for exercises to improve on my technique? Obiously I can't improve on my technique a lot in that 1 hour every 2 weeks.

Anyways

Any tips on taking lessons?

I am sure that your teacher will give you things to work on at home for the weeks in between each lesson.

Tip number one. DO WHAT THE TEACHER TELLS YOU! It is unbelievable the low percentage of students that actually do this. Seriously, you can get an awful lot of advice and guidance in 1 hour. Do what the teacher says, if they are just merely competent you will improve.

in my experience, lessons are analogous to rehearsal and the time between them to practice

in other words, what you do in those 2 weeks between will dictate how well and quickly you learn and progress...i think this is kind of what you are saying, so to answer what to do in the time between, i echo Bill--do what the teacher tells you!

seriously, if the teacher is good, he/she will outline a lesson plan and let you know what to practice for the next lesson, and when the next lesson comes a good teacher will expect you to show that you've done this homework

as an example, you may be asked to construct arpeggios for chord progressions, play these in all positions, play scales in all positions, etc...the kind of thing that we need to know and work on alone anyway--the teacher should be there to guide, answer questions, inform your technique, etc...

can you sight-read? that's definitely something i need to work on moreso than i do, and will open a lot of doors

good luck, wish you the best!

thx

I allready practice up to e few hours a day, so I guess I just need some guidance as to what to practice.

Because now I just play for hours what I allready know, maybe even avoiding things I can't do or don't know.

Can't wait to start the lessons
