My nephew asked me a couple of times about playing on my Basses from time to time and I just thought it was a kid thing, you know....like curiosity. Anyway I let him and told him about scales and fretting the strings properly, standard tuning on a four-string, so on and so on! Anyway, the next time he came over he remembered every thing I had told him, everything! I was so amazed that we went to a local Music store and he picked out the Shortscale Ibanez!

Talk about a happy kid, so far he has gotten down 3 scales forwards and backwards, can tune his own Bass and understands what the chromatic scale is, and that's mostly from just today!

I'm so happy for him, he tries so hard too!

Fair play to him! I started when I was 8, best choice I ever made...

I genuinely hope he keeps it up!

Myself, I first picked up the bass less than 2 years ago, and learned at a pretty decent rate.

But hell, if that kid has his scales down, he's already way ahead of me.

Best of luck to ya

That is great at that age they have no fear and others haven't told them somethings are hard. I would toss a little sightreading and ear training in the mix they absorb it like its nothing.

Congrat's you are sensei for a budding new musician.
